Can We Truly Learn From Mistakes?

Question: What are examples of learning from mistakes?

Answer: Unfortunately so far we have almost no such examples, either personal or collective ones. Despite all the “oath” we take, the convictions we have to “never repeat again”, we keep on walking into the same traps, committing the same mistakes again and again, but each time in a deeper, more complex manner.

Our inherently egoistic, self-justifying nature prevents us from seeing ourselves honestly. This inherent nature does not allow us to find the root of all our problems within ourselves, thus we always blame others or external circumstances. And as a result we keep on blindly repeating the same mistakes again and again.

In order to truly learn from mistakes and adjust, correct our individual or collective path, first we would need to escape our instinctive reactions, automatic self-justification. And that is only possible by first honestly learning who we are, what desires, inclinations truly drive us, and then receiving the method and the tools for self-corrections.
