Question: If being truly enlightened means exploring further than what we have digested through others experiences, be it through books or life-lessons, then how much of what we know is true?
Answer: There is no “truth” in what we know today. Today what we have is personal, egocentric and subjective “versions of truth”. And as they also said in the movie “Cloud Atlas”, “the version of truth is mistruth since truth is singular”.
Only as you suggested, perceiving and digesting reality through the viewpoints, desires and life experiences of others – where our inherently self-serving, self-justifying and introverted ego disappears – can we acquire the necessary objective and transparent observer point that can discern the “enlightened, absolute truth”.
When we create environments where each member makes 100% efforts to reach “truth” through self-annulment towards the others, we will create a unique, unprecedented “clearing in the middle” where we can start observing reality without selfish, egoistic distortion as if through a selfless window.
