Question: If you had the option to never experience sadness in your life again, would you take it?
Answer: I never understood the “Hollywood version” of heaven, with its blissful tranquility, soothing colors, endless love and happiness “hanging in the air”…
Even in the movie “Matrix”, the architect described how Human beings could not tolerate the first version of the Matrix that was designed to provide a perfect life experience.
The reason is simple. We can’t perceive, comprehend things without duality, contrast. We would have no idea about love without hate, happiness without sadness, about sweet without bitter. Only two opposite contrast comprise a perfect whole.
This does not mean of course that we have to purposefully search for suffering, negative experiences in order to enjoy the positive opposites. We can use this principle more wisely. We can set in front of us “almost impossible”, very high, positive, “superhuman” overall goals, life purpose which we constantly grow, magnify for each other.
Then the constant mutual effort, the constant yearning, “love sickness” of getting almost there but never reaching the target – and when we acquire the ability to reach it we immediately raise the bar – can give us that dual, bitter-sweet sensation without the need of actual suffering, blows.
By this we can constantly grow, develop, reaching heights, abilities we never thought we could reach. As wise people noted, “…heaven is a state of endless, infinite changes with infinite speed…”
