Question: Do we have the right to choose how we identify with our thoughts or are our instant thoughts the truth to who we are?

Answer: It is easier if we imagine ourselves not as “power sources”, “creators” of something, but as observers, like “computer displays”.

Our thoughts, desires are not our own, they are not born in us. They flow through us from “outside”, which outside is first of all the environment we exist in, but beyond the environment there is a greater, “higher”, natural system which generates everything. What we feel is the so called natural “circle of life” flowing through us.

We are all unique observers, computer displays, our uniqueness being determined by our genetic inheritance, upbringing and the education we received. And finally – as mentioned above – the actual environment we exist in is the final filter through which this natural “circle of life” reaches us.

To return to your question, “we have the right” to choose how we identify with these thoughts desires, we have the right to determine how we react to them, what is our response, what action those thoughts, desires generate in us. We can change the “inner software” called intention, and then this conscious intention will determine our reaction to the “circle of life”, what the streaming thoughts and desires evoke in us.

And here again we do not determine the reaction, the intention on our own. It is the last filter, the environment that will determine our intentions, the inner software that generates how we respond to whatever streams through us. The environment is the fine tuning device.

Here we can see how crucial the environment is, in fact choosing the environment is the only free choice we have, since the environment is the filter the natural “circle of life” flow reaches us, and the environment also determines our intention, reaction to the flow.
