Answer: I am sure most of us who needs glasses had the incident of desperately searching for the glasses until someone pointed out it was on our forehead…
In a bit more general way we are all suffering from such a “cosmic Purloined Letter” incident. We are searching for pleasures, we are all searching for infinite happiness, infinite fulfillment. And such infinite happiness, fulfillment is all around us, we exist in its ocean. But we are searching in the wrong place, we try to receive pleasures through the wrong method.
Driven by our inherently self-focused, subjective software we keep trying to grab, accumulate everything solely for ourselves. But our own “receptive vessels”, our own capacity for fulfillment, happiness is very limited, moreover the moment we fulfilled a desire it is turned off, it becomes satiated and the yearning and thus the pleasure disappears.
If we learned how to receive pleasures, happiness for the sake of others, we could open the “floodgates” and become capable of receiving, enjoying endlessly, infinitely. This can happen in the right, purposeful environment through the right, practical educational method. Then everything we wanted, desperately searched for all our lives, all through human history we would find all around us.
