Question: Would you stand up for something even if it means to lose everything?
Answer: According to the normal, self-serving, self-justifying, egocentric Human nature – which makes simple, constant calculations on selfish rewards, pleasures gained against effort, suffering exerted – I wouldn’t consciously, knowingly stand up for something, if it means losing more than what I can potentially gain.
Now it is possible that others – usually those who truly benefit from it – trick me into believing that I can gain more than I can lose, thus I move into action, since the surrounding environment can make us do anything. But the basic “pleasure/pain calculations remain.
(This is why it is important in that environment we exist in, who we allow to influence, “brainwash” us.)
Only when people very clearly have nothing to lose anymore do they rise up and create true uprisings, revolutions “by their own volition”.
