Giving Up The Self

Question: What do you think would be the hardest thing for you to give up?

Answer: My “self”.

By default – according to our inherently self-centered, self-serving, self-protective and self-justifying nature – our “self”, self-esteem, our “honor” is our greatest treasure, which we guard, raise all the time. We have countless examples how this can lead even to the sacrifice of one’s physical survival for the protection of self-esteem, honor.

On the other hand this “self-protection” – considering ourselves as individual, standalone beings, with a prideful egoism that wants to succeed at the expense of others (otherwise I can’t prove my superiority) – makes us behave like cancer in a fully integrated and interdependent world, Natural system.

This is the paradox, crossroad we are facing today.

Our first, real free choice in Human existence is about choosing in between the instinctive self-protection – even at the expense of Human survival ; and an unprecedented, “supernatural” (above instinctive nature) “self-annulment” in order to safeguard our collective Human survival, further evolutionary development as a single, collective Human “super-organism”.

At this stage unfortunately we are still very much undecided about the choice and the outcome, while the clock is ticking…
