Question: What would you consider to be “wasting your life”?
Answer: The expression “wasting” points at a potential opportunity that remains unfulfilled. We are called “Human” but this simply points at a potential evolutionary degree we could, should achieve.
But by default we are hardly above the animal level we evolved from, simply following an automatic egoistic software “written on the selfish pleasure/pain principle”. We blindly chase fulfillments for the well known animate (food, sex, family) and social (wealth, power/fame, knowledge) desires, focusing on a day to day existence in a hostile world.
When the famous question of “What is the meaning of my life?” appears, it signals an invitation from Nature’s evolution – as if switching on a new, previously dormant desire in us – to start searching for our truly Human purpose, role in life, to reach the qualitatively higher degree evolution has assigned to us.
The person who ignores this invitation, suppresses it with the usual mind numbing, aimless pleasures of this life is “wasting one’s life”.
