Question: Why are people as a whole becoming less ‘aware’ as our civilization ages?
Answer: Human evolution equals the exponential growth, increasing ”self-awareness” of our ego. Thus although initially we were very much aware of the Natural environment around us, living with it in harmony, today we have become completely self-absorbed, narcissistic, self-serving, self-justifying and subjective. And while initially we were also aware of our need, dependence on social connections, mutual cooperation, living as a single unit, today we have become completely individualistic, abandoning even the traditional family.
We are less aware as we are now completely enclosed into our own selfish, introverted fortresses, observing, considering only what serves our egocentric pleasure/pain calculations.
If we want regain our awareness, objective perception of reality, we would need to rise above the egoistic instincts, we would need to leave our dark fortresses by learning how to perceive reality through the desires, needs, viewpoints of others.
