Question: Why do people say there is a second mind in the stomach?
Answer: Here is an interesting article on the subject from Scientific American:
Think Twice: How the Gut’s “Second Brain” Influences Mood and Well-Being
Also symbolically we can say that we are governed by two different “minds”, calculating systems. The “stomach/gut” represents our instinctive “pleasure/pain” calculations, the “animate level” being which is constantly caring for the well-being, survival of the self.
By default we do not really have a second, “Human” mind as even our “higher, individual intellect’ is subordinate to this instinctive life path.
Only Humans have the ability to “grow”, “educate a truly second, collective Human intellect, where we acquire a calculation for the sake of the whole collective above and many times against the “gut instincts”.
We have to develop this new, collective Human intellect in the last, conscious phase of Human evolution which basically started in our generation. Without this higher, collective Human intellect we can’t survive in the globally integrated, interdependent world we have evolved into.
