Question: Do you think the fear of running out of money in retirement is overblown?
Answer: If that money relates to securing one’s basic, natural, healthy and modern necessities, then this fear, concern is not overblown. And we know how much people in retirement struggle to make ends meet in many countries, regardless of their country’s “development” status.
On the other hand retirement should not be simply viewed as a period to simply survive till our inevitable end. Just because someone finished doing their regular jobs it does not mean they should not feel useful, contributing, valuable members of their families, societies who can continue to search and work for the meaning, purpose in life.
Thus simply shipping these gradually aging people into retirement homes, villages, nursing homes is a cruel, inhuman way of dealing with them. They need to remain fully integrated, active members of their families, societies till the very end.
